Renata Carvalho’s raw and mesmerising performance brings her travesti identity to the fore, challenging us to understand the suffering caused by stigma and marginalisation.

Performed from Berlin to Cape Verde and across South America, O Evangelho has changed the landscape of Brazilian theatre forever, enduring state and Institutional censorship and 16 lawsuits. Since the election of right-wing Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro is has become too dangerous to perform the play in Brazil.
